Fatigue behaviour of Plasma Sprayed Titania and Chromia Coatings

Cr2O3 and TiO2 powders were deposited by atmospheric plasma spray (APS) on steel substrates. Microstructural analysis of the coatings showed typical lamellar structure with good coating quality. Fatigue strength was studied using cyclic testing (measuring an inhouse-built apparatus coated systems under a wide range impact cycles) static loading tests (Vickers standards 600N 1500N) measuring adhesion properties coatings. In low cycles (1x10 3 ) Titania exhibited better strength, while at intermediate (4.5x10 5 high 6 number cycles, both Chromia quite similar characteristics. At force thickness plays critical role performance obtained During characteristics crater diameter but larger depth for Titania. higher resistance than mechanical structure.
